Reverend Phil Ball

Unique, non-judgmental, open and affirming of all God’s people!

  1. -Odyssey is a community of relationships that cannot be reduced to a commodity.  A relationship with God is not neat or tidy, and cannot be packaged for mass distribution.

  1. -We keep institutionalism to a minimum.  With that in mind, Odyssey does not have ‘members’.  We are instead, a group of participants; each with unique gifts to add to each other’s experience.

  1. -While we have a budget, we do not run financial campaigns.  Those who feel called to give, have the opportunity to do so, but are under no obligation.

  1. -We use discernment and consensus for decision making.  We do not take votes.

A Typical Service at ODYSSEY
We begin an Odyssey service with a welcome, and a few announcements.  Following, we sing 3 Praise Choruses lead by Uprising (Odyssey’s band).  The praise choruses could be anything from the traditional “I’ll Fly Away” to a more contemporary Eagle’s rendition of “Amazing Grace.”  Once we’ve set our mind towards fellowship, Phil starts his sermon while the children go to Children’s Church with Miss Beverly (the best children’s director there is!).
The sermon lasts around 20 minutes and is followed by a special song by Uprising.  With professional musicians and a diverse songbook (including Eric Clapton), Uprising always provides a touch of magic to the service.   Prayer/celebration time and communion are held after the song.  ALL are welcome at the Lord’s communion table.  After one last short song, we join hands for the benediction:  “May the Lord Bless You and Keep You. May the Lord Make His Face to Shine Upon You and Be Gracious Unto You. May the Lord Lift Up His Countenance Upon You and Give you Peace. Amen.”

Our Spiritual Compass

We believe that all Life began with and flows from God/Christ/Holy Spirit, and that each person is a unique creation or ‘extension’ of God.  Our underlying goal is to introduce people to God where appropriate, but especially to provide ongoing nurturing for people who are in a long term relationship with God.   It is our belief that all life prospers in love when we engage in a relationship with the Creator.  Our goal is to continually ‘reveal’ our understanding of what God is like in everyday terms and settings in hopes that people will move closer to and be in harmony with the Origin, Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer of all that is.

About Us
We are Disciples of Christ, A Movement for Wholeness in a Fragmented World. We understand ourselves to be open and affirming of people attempting to grow in faith; regardless of age, gender, race, socioeconomic status, or sexual/affectional orientation. As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord’s table as God has first welcomed us.
